Guhaado

A young university student named Guhaado is relentlessly stalked by a man named Mukhtar. After she rejects him, he rapes her. When she returns home in shock, her mother is devastated—but the family's response is not justice. Instead, Guhaado's father and community elders settle the matter according to tradition: she will marry her rapist. Her mother, powerless, can only apologize. Guhaado tries to file a police report, but the officer turns her away because the case has already been "resolved" by the elders. Trapped in a marriage to the man who destroyed her, she despairs. But Guhaado finds quiet resistance. A friend gives her tablets to slip into Mukhtar's food and drink—medication that will ruin him physically and mentally. As Mukhtar's condition worsens, he becomes insane, and his manhood is at risk. The elders, following their own rules, declare him no longer her husband and set her free, granting her everything in the house. Months later, Guhaado calls out to a young boy—"Come here, son"—suggesting she has survived, gained a child, and finally reclaimed her life on her own terms.
